Abstract

This report presents a case of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 where a contaminated continuous positive airway pressure device was potentially implicated in disease transmission. Humidifiers and nebulisers remain a potential source of Legionnaires’ disease. Patient and family education on device maintenance is important in reducing the risk of infection. Device manuals and instructions for use should be updated to highlight the medical reasons why cleaning and maintenance is important.
